Existing DescriptionIn response to the polio outbreak across West and Central Africa, the Gambia Red Cross Society supported three rounds of national polio immunization days during March, April and June 2010. Through its network of community-based volunteers, the Red Cross conducted social mobilization through household visits, community entertainment, and other activities to ensure that all children aged 0-5 years were vaccinated against polio.
Over the course of the three campaigns, 550 Gambia Red Cross volunteers visited over 30,000 households to encourage vaccination and help ‘kick polio out of Africa!’
