Existing DescriptionPhilippines, 22 August 2019:
The surge in the number of dengue cases in the country is stretching the capacity of hospitals. To ease the influx and overcrowding of patients in public hospitals, Philippine Red Cross has set up dengue emergency medical units (DEMU). The tents are equipped with beds, air conditioning units, mosquito nets and portable toilets. Volunteer nurses are also helping the hospital manage the dengue-ill patients.
This tent in the grounds of Pagamutan ng Dasmarinas in Cavite has served more than 50 patients and ready to continuously cater to more patients as health officials projected that the dengue epidemic is far from over and the rate of cases is still expected to peak by October. The tent is initially deployed for three months of operation but Red Cross is willing to extend its operation if necessary.
The Department of Health has declared dengue epidemic early this month after several regions have exceeded the epidemic threshold.
