SummaryStarting on 8 September, strong winds and heavy rainfall from the remnants of Typhoon Yagi triggered severe flooding and landslides across Myanmar, affecting over 631,000 people and resulting in 113 reported deaths.
At least 9 regions have been affected and widespread flooding inundated the Capital Naypyidaw, Southern and Eastern Shan, Mandalay, Bago, Kayah, and Kayin, resulted in more than 320,000 people displaced and moved to temporary camps as houses and belongings were destroyed or damaged.
Since the onset of the floods, MRCS teams have been working tirelessly to ensure the safety of those affected. Red Cross branches are collaborating closely with local authorities and other humanitarian organizations to conduct rapid needs assessments. Red Cross volunteers are working around the clock, providing search and rescue services, first aid and referral services, healthcare, food, and safe drinking water to the affected communities.
